easter sunday lunch
alberts yummy starters
feta cheese with coriander and chilli
looking good
smoke salmon spoonfulls and mozarella salad
should have rather termed this lazy sunday lunch..the pictures are the starters that were inspired by a great weekend, of easy food, wonderful company, and all those glowy things that happen when people are relaxed and enjoying some time off.
traditionally when my family are around a lazy sunday lunch would never describe having people over for lunch, that would mean, planning three days ahead, and cooking up a storm, a heavy lunch with all it's accompaniments. by the time the guests leave, and we have finished cleaning up, one is so exhausted there is no room to even savour the day. the food in the pictures above would never even feature on the menu. since i had the place to myself, and a willing loving accomplice, we invited friends over for lunch, and the result was a relaxed, fun afternoon, with great food and even better company.
the menu:
starters:
avocado in a chilli mayonaise sauce (my own concoction)
smoked salmon spoonfulls (alberts piece de resistance)
tomato and mozarella salad on a bed of rocket (alberts idea)
japanese cucumber salad with ginger (alberts concoction)
feta cheese with chilli and coriander ( my meditaranean inspiration)
baked pita pockets sprinkled with sea salt and olive oil
main:
fish and prawns in steamed rice: (this was seriously a dreamed up concoction)
forgot to take a picture. possibly could be termed a pilauf
desert:
mango sorbet (from woolies)
tea/coffee:
with my never fail 5 min cake.
as i type this out, it seems like a hefty amount of work, the beauty of it all was that it took an hour or just over to put it all together. there was no advance planning, no traditional indian mother stress, just a perfectly in sinc combination of two people, who were relaxed and happy. looking forward to chilling with friends
and enjoying a wonderful autumnal day in the city of johannesburg.what could be more fulfilling and rewarding. maybe that one day it could be our own home, where indulgences like these could be the norm, not just around easter....mmmmmm, perhaps some day.
