stupidity?

congratulations to the springboks on reaching the final of the rugby world cup.i am not a fan of the game finding it very rough and a little to butch,...but the boys have done well under coach jack white, who chose gifted players rather than going for the black empowerment deal. sports have become more representative in south africa, today, and i believe that talent should outway just skin colour.i hope that they bring home the cup, this final has brought out patriotic fervour even amongst those who don't follow the game,....this is where things start getting really stupid

avid fans, now that there team have made the final have shelled out excessive amounts of money on tickets for the final,...the stupidity is obtaining a visa from the french,...since these are not being issued it's money down the drain. how idiotic can the french be, it goes without saying that south african's would want to travel...could they not have the for thought to put measures in place that would provide the necessary paperwork?

then the national carrier is putting on more flights to paris, heloooo? no visa's whats the point.it amazes me the stupidity of things.

there's baragwanath hospital. the paediatric ward had no beds for the new borns, why? cause they were stolen, and the babies sleep in boxes. so our minister of health manto tshabalala-msimang organised 60 odd cots through private and public funding. the lady doesn't get it,..by next week they would have to be replaced again, together with stolen equipment, linen etc, etc, etc. why not push government to weed out crime, why not educate your population, by letting them know that theft only disadvantages those that need it the most. it's like talking to a brick wall.

more stupidity, its transport month, so the minister of transport started the hov(high occupancy vehicle lanes)on the freeway to pretoria, to be used at peak times, the traffic is still backed up,the hov lanes empty, no one in this town uses public transport unless they are desperate. last week, some friends of ours,..had a horror story, their grand daughter got into a taxi, on the way home from school, the driver dropped off all his passengers, then proceeded to drive all over town with the young girl, when he stopped at a traffic light, she jumped out of the vehicle, and managed to get away. this young teenager could have been seriously injured even raped. therefore, why would we use taxis?, instead of the gautrain, waste of billions of rands, from the airport to pretoria, why didn't the government introduce more lane lines on the highways, we have ample land space.

i'll tell you why, just like the dam projects in india (arundati roy, has been quite vocal about those)some government official and his pals are making loads of money out of johannesburg's white horse.we don't need it but we will have it.

then there's load sharing, eskom has been cutting electricity to the suburbs,of johannesburg, in the hope of saving energy they say...bullshit. there has been not enough money spent on looking after the infrastructure, since the demanded for electricity has increased eskom, cannot cope, and power stations are seriously in need of revamping, the answer is to cut electricity. why not utilise tax payers money to renovate ailing power plants? well because we spend in excess of 800 million rands a year on travel expense for the government, and another 800 million a year feeding useless parliamentarians lunch.

when the electricity goes, so does the high tec security systems in our suburban enclosures, so electric fences don't work leaving us exposed to house breaking, and all sorts of other crimes. the answer,... get your own generator. how many of us can really afford that?

i have a friend flying in from delhi on monday, i've been racking my brain, where do i take him?, to show him the sights. lol. this is jhb, there really are none. it's a city, so a friend said, "sights?" you asking to get mugged....i think that is a little strong.despite my quibling about crime and services, this is a fast paced driven city. we work hard and sleep early.
so what to do? dinner/movies/theatre/then there's the picturesque drive, the jacaranda's (imported from argentina, rather taxing on our water supplies, an alien tree, but beautiful)are in full bloom. johannersburg is one of the greenest cities in the world.and there's the mine dumps, the city is founded on gold, and the dumps have been part of the skyline forever. new technology, has these dumps being mine'd as well. there's the apartheid museum. constitution hill, where our very modern constitutional court sits, on the site of the old fort, which was the prison where all awaiting trial political and criminal convicts spent there days, before being shipped to robben island and polsmoor.

mmmmm, when i think out loud, i begin to realise that like all other cities, we can offer our visitors some places of interest:)i think when he gets here a good idea would be to take my camera along, do a photo blog on the sites to see in johannesburg.

Schiller said that against stupidity, the gods themselves battle in vain.
