spent the weekend doing girly things with my mother,...it was great just to bond, go to the mall, test new lip colours have lunch out with friends, the type of thing you can only do when the men in the house are away :)
no need for cooking,or cleaning.late mornings, eating out, watching bollywood movies(usually the men are loath to come, or complain throughout the three hours of the movie),browse the stores all this without that indescribable anxiousness that occurs when you know there are men at home, who are regulated into wanting their meals provided at certain times,or just plain want you around,so they feel secure and comfortable.
hey babyy, was our only option in the movie stakes as we arrived an hour to late to watch SRK, in "chak de india". srk though made a cameo appearance, in quite a silly way,...he looked a little jaded and rather to old for his baba to be finding him a bride...none the less,we were so relaxed and i found the tears roll down my face, i laughed so much,...a rip off of three men and a baby with a bollywood spin,...nice little message about, men being insensitive in their treatment of women,..treatment that they would never want to see their daughter suffer under the hands of men like themselves, so they fall in love with the most adorable thing in a diaper, and mend their philandering ways,...none of the leading men, are really my cup of tea, however vidya balan is a true gem, i loved her in parineeta, and she played this role with great aplomb, she has a true screen presence.
in the meantime, the sms's go back and forth between ourselves and the men in our home, as they travel hong kong and china,..leaving my mum to comment: "they might as well be here, they call so often, :)" so while the men are away, the cats went out to play. we will have to make it to chak de, perhaps on the coming weekend,...
the one thing about attending the theatre where bollywood movies are screened, is the general state of disrepair the theatres are in,...firstly my "countrymen" seem not to know that popcorn and drinks can be consumed without feeding the seats,..next they leave the garbage behind all over the place, which takes the harassed cleaners ages to clear up,... or the fact that they have no manners or patience to wait for people to find their seats, intent on jumping the cue, what's the rush ?(where have our manners gone?) i always thought we were a reasonably intelligent bunch but the behaviour in movie theatres suggests otherwise,..then the children who cry and run around throughout the movie,..oh and the cellphones which are never turned off before the movie begins,...why does this never happen at the theatres that screen western movies, why do i have to constantly feel embarrassed to be Indian? further, there is never anyone else that frequents these theatres, apart from the couple of "whitey's" who have embraced the genre, and love all things Indian,...the theatre is only frequented by the "cousins". this seems reason enough to purchase dvd's and watch the movie in the comfort of one's own home.
this general state of malaise and disrepair, follows through even on international flights to the sub continent, the last time i flew emirates air to Pakistan, the plain looked dirty and badly in need of a pick me up, it seems that most airlines that fly to the subcontinent, or "third world" destinations, send out their worst kept air craft, there seems to be a general neglect, an idea that, that is all we deserve,
i wander if it is, because, we have not learnt how to behave in public spaces, or the powers that be (those running theaters, and airlines) are generally discriminatory against us in the "third world", there seems to be a lack of wanting to refurbish anything.
in any event,...hey babyy was humorous enough to erase the disrepair of the theatre and send us to bed in a happy frame of mind, allowing us to forget that tomorrow is Monday,...
"tell me why, i don't like Mondays :)"

Girls' day out?
I am so sorry to hear about the state of cinemas where Indian films are screened. We have these multiplexes in India these days. The crowd that comes is from upper middle class, educated and hence out to be socially more conscious but one look at the e the hall as you leave and your heart sinks. There is popcorn all over the place - the seats, floor, walkway. They probably think that they have bought the right to litter these places by paying those 130, 250, 300 Rs. And these are exactly the kind of people who would be very particular about keeping their own houses clean...sigh...sigh...
Will try and catch Heyy baby. And you don't miss Chak de
planning to make chak de, this weekend :)
