wedding weekend
angina and meg(obviously bored, must be the ministers speech, hehehe)
grooms mother in blue and her beautiful guest yasmin in pink, (both are yasmin)
gold and red for the walima
family enjoying the braai food
arshad and riaad fooling around
a strategically placed fan hides the military mural
wedding weekend finally came to an end,..i am told this will not occur again till December,(the thought of it)i am already trying to decide where i can be in December to avoid the three ringed circus again,..
on Saturday we attended the braai night, held at the SA military museum, weddings and the military, can't see what they might have in common. strategically placed Chinese fans, lanterns, clothing artfully concealed ak 47's, hand grenades, all types of military paraphernalia,...
the irony, was watching kids and adults alike get behind the wheel of "mellow yellows" the feared Casper's that moved into townships to control people, who's insides spewed police with guns,.. there to control, and strike fear into the hearts of innocent people, on this night, those feared machines of war had become the playground of young kids,...who have no idea what they represented just forty odd years ago, and for us, people of colour to be celebrating the wedding of a new generation,...well just amazing. in a few short years we have put the apartheid past behind us, ....relegated to museums, where children laugh and play, where we celebrate new life and new beginnings, i think for a lot of us, that night the significance of this little braai was not lost.
on a lighter note, the black pants saved the day again, this time teamed with a black polar and evening jacket, a tad better decked out i was than the previous night,...perhaps because i managed to make it to the beauty salon,..for a much needed facial,i began to think that getting decked out for this wedding weekend, was much like getting ready for the iifa's or the oscars, hair/makeup/clothing/manicure's/pedicures the entire shebang, just without the paparazzi value,..perhaps i should have made a call,...to the tabloids intimating that it was someone famous tying the knot,LOL,...might have made me feel that all the effort to appear was worth it. once again i did not fly under the radar, when it came to the,.. when are you getting married question?,i smiled prettily, pointed to the corners of my eyes and said, "do you see any wrinkles?"
the reply: "no". "well then, you know that i would be avoiding the net of matrimony, cause it seems to be keeping the wrinkles at bay :)"
so i hob nobbed with the cousins, and went home to a well earned rest, .....and the next occassion the walima,...happily my cousins had the foresight to invite two people to the wedding,...so the night function was all i had to attend..
two functions in one day,...the poor bride,..she arrived looking rather tired in the gown she was wearing since sunrise,..considering that her function started around 11am that morning, the entire affair appeared tired, the ladies as always were turned out beautifully, but there was an air of fatigue rather than expectation surrounding the function. the speeches,...oh lord the speeches, could the "minister"(not the priest, the grooms grand uncle, who's governmental job title is minister of ? "bullshit maybe" who knows)he could have atleast had the respect to prepare his speech , he spoke off the cuff, repetitively basically driving the guests to tears rather than laughter, this time though instead of having him speak while dinner was served they timed it till after the guests had eaten, so perhaps unlike the last wedding he addressed people would listen.
i guess he gets the podium because it makes the family proud of his achievements, and so we should be considering the hard struggle it took to get there. i wish though that family would understand, that he is a person like everyone else,..that our tax money pays his salary, so essentially he should be proud to be in our company rather than the other way around...but then that's just me and the groupies, will always fawn, and laugh at his quite, un-funny jokes.
all in all, the food didn't differ much from all previous weddings attended in the last week, we were placed at the exit/entrance, which brought in freezing air from the outside,..so all my beautifully attired aunts and cousins, who had the displeasure of being seated with me froze, their sexy rears off,...my simple solution always is to dress for the weather, so the black pants, (no i did not wear them),..made way for a gold knitted ensemble with red polar, and some dramatic jewels. as always i was dressed in a fashion all of my own,,,can't say that i didn't mind freezing to death at the door.i suppose it is all sweet revenge for my well documented abhorrance of these affairs. i had to admit though that my cousin, the mother of the groom looked quite fetching i her blue ensemble, she definitely doesn't look old enough to have married kids, let alone be a grandmother.
come to think of it we probably got the door, cause i am doing what all ungrateful guests do after the wedding,..having a good skinner about what wasn't right
isn't that, why we attend weddings in the first place, to gossip about the entire function after.
well our new foreign affairs cadet and his beautiful bride, soon to be an articled clerk in a law firm, are off, celebrating their honeymoon in Mauritius, i sincerely wish them a happy and fun filled life together,...as i slowly slide into the annals of spinsterhood:)......this being said i have possibly guaranteed that i will never be invited to attend another wedding.

You look great in that golden top. perhaps it is worth dressing up every once in a way? :)
