security?
Johannesburg is in the grip of some chilling temperatures this week, i am more than convinced that i am not a winter person. give me 30 degree temperatures any day and i will be happy.
though the forced hibernation means i can learn to do things like putting personal photo's on my pc etc,... nothing much exciting happening here though.the local community are on a collection drive encouraging households to pay for private security,..the plan is to put in camera's throughout the suburb, and have private patrol cars with armed security. with every passing day, i am more appalled at the fact that we are imprisoning ourselves within secure suburbs as a protection against rampant crime in this country. where will it end,...those that can afford more than the R1000.00 a month it costs to maintain security, are already seen in public spaces with personal armed body guards.
why aren't we petitioning government instead, to do something about the high instances of violent crime in this country, the fact is that people are? doing that.however since the powers that be could bully even big business into backing out of advertising and petitioning against crime,...how does ordinary joe schmo stand a chance, pttt!!! i forget crime according to government is not an issue.
my home is starting to resemble fort Knox, though all the precautions one takes are just that pre-cautions. there needs to be a severe shift within south african society as a whole, a re-education of people so that we realise that crime does not pay, that killing people for a cellphone or car is not acceptable.
i can rant about this for ages, and things will not change. how does one go about rebuilding the moral structure of an entire nation? beats me.
