Women's Day

women's day.

9th august, women's day, the day south african's celerbrate, women's uprising against injustice in apartheid south africa. 10 years into liberation, and im wandering, how far have we really come? womens right's etc, enshrined in our constitution, 30%women in government, is this all tokenism, things continue here as always, on this holiday, hands up how many of you spent the day in the kitchen, planning weekly meals, for the family, cramming into every minute of this day, what you dont have time for in the week..... yep, thats right i see the raised hands, and i wander, when will it all change.the difference know is we all chase that modern material ethic, the house the car, the 2+kids, the job, so you become overworked underpaid, hating life and everything closely resembling it, u wanna b superwoman, but somethings gotta give, and its plainly, givin,...and givin, ..and givin.
personally i spent, 3hours of a blesed day off, stuck in the parking lot, of a rather nasty mall, with a flat batterry, all this cause i was helping, another female member of the family, do her neccessary shopping, .....since she has no means of getting around, things are put on the back burner, till someone can spare some time, pathetic isn't it, after years of fighting for freedom, ...we dont even have a remotely descent transport service, that could give people a certain measure of independence...hey, if your'e middleclass, have a job, a bit of credit, get your'e own wheels, else be at the beck an call of avaialable relatives.... what happens to those who cannot afford the mod, con's? think about that.

freedom at last, perhaps mr. mbeki and "honoured" members of his staff, instead of rejuvenating, the dreams of the ousmane's, kenyatta's, of the african continent, a little time spent in your own backyard, will make u realise, that the plains of struggle, are a lot more simple, fix the problems in your own back yard before you go digging in the neighbours dirt.

here's to all women, fighter's, mother's, love'rs, siste'rs. happy women's day. let us not forget those who struggled before us,
