life, really is what we make of it. of late i have been most irrate, with things in general down south, (the southern most tip of africa) and having read, an interesting blogspot, decided,i too could note my ramblings.
johannesburg, is rather an interesting city, with a history, im sure few places could claim,
i consider this then the lifting of the veil. khalil gibran said,"i found in silences that i may dispense with confidence?
if this is my day of harvest, in what fields have i sowed the seed, and in what unremembered seasons?" (borrowed from "the prophet") .
the beauty of thought i think holds a greater enchantment than the beauty of form.yet as modern people of the twentieth century, we put such emphasis on the form, rather than the content.this relates to politics, religion, love, most things we deal with daily, mostly i think im just tired of being fed uninformed and biased opinions of things happening in the world around us, what happened to the silences, the time of contemplation, when we had our own thoughts, formed our own opinions, and yes, bothered to read and widen our horizons beyond, poorly investigated news casts, and badly written articles, in the local press.
yes, uve guest it, im "gatvol" with being fed 'shlock' on a regular basis.
im upset, that as we enter the third millenium, people have been made lazy, and resemble, the proverbial shepherds flock, we have forgotten how to think, to question, and to voice our objections to mediocrity,.....
i object, i object, i object.

I feel that as mere cogs in the industrial machine of this world today, we are not required to think. The less people think, the better it is for society as a whole. The beehive syndrome is catching up with us on a global scale. The light turns red, and we stop, etc. etc. But, and this is a big but, this is what is destroying us as well. I sometimes wonder if humankind is capable of any better, most of the time, my faith in the stupidity of humans is justified. Then I see children, and I think there is hope, maybe they will be different. I can only hope, while I look at everything heading the wrong way, that we will evolve into better beings, but it will be a painful evolution, getting rid of our instinctive primitive selves and become something more. Will it happen soon? I think not..
i hope it does, in this overly machinised world, there are the thinkers out there, who keep us grounded in reality.
an old professor of mine had this to say " if you are hostile to its contents do not try to teach liteature at all. if you want to teach it, re-educate yourself. read the bible as liteature written by humans about other humans and their beliefs, fights and wars, their love affairs and loose sexual relationships, their murders.try to appreciate the poetry" eski'a mphahlele, 1978. what im getting at, is we should recognise the poetry in life, that we can reason, love, laugh, create beauty, larger than just a global economy, we are more than an instinctive primitive self, we are creative beings, therefore, thee must always be hope
