so hear i am Saturday morning,a gloomy rain threatened weekend and lucky dube, south Africa's slain reggae star is on the front page. gunned down by hijacker's another high profile south African, to be killed by violent crime in this country.
as usual our president,..as he jets off with numerous ministers to cheer on the boks in their world cup effort, makes the most irritating statements, he said,"he was saddened by dube's death and concerned about the scourge of violent crime that was killing many south Africans daily" sounds like his on weed, perhaps he is a Rastafarian. (practicing)
concerned? ya right,..and pigs can fly. as usual this matter will pass,.. the papers will be filled with tributes to the reggae star, and the killing will be forgotten as fast as it leaves the front pages of the local daily's.ordinary citizen will continue to pay the price of crime. there is no real effort on the part of our government to do anything about crime, it is just a concern, like the neighbours dog peeing on your lawn is a concern.
so our president jets off to France, with his ministers to cheer on the team, what an unnecessary expense, have they not heard of video linkage,...the tax payer once again pays for useless ministers to get a free weekend break in Paris,..then they talk about funding being stretched, so necessary revamping of our infrastructure must wait.i'm sure the ministers all have TV sets.
lucky dube addressed the issue of being killed by hijackers in this 2001 song
CRIME AND CORRUPTION
is it the bodyguards around you:
is it the high walls where you live;
or is it the men with the guns around you
twenty four hours a day
that make you ignore the crying of the people?
farmers get killed every day
and you say its not that bad.
policemen get killed every day
and you say its not that bad.
maybe if you see it through the eyes of the
victims
you will join us and fight this.
chorus: crime and corruption
do you ever worry
about your house being broken into?
do you ever worry
about your car being taken away from you
in broad daylight
down highway 54?
do you ever worry
about your wife becoming
the woman in black?
do you ever worry
about leaving home and
coming back in a coffin
with a bullet through your head?
so join us and fight this!
chorus: crime and corruption.
he sang of freedom and healing,...and died to early, will this be your wake up call mr.president?
meanwhile on the subcontinent, Karachi gets rocked by blasts that kill hundreds.
BB is back and it seems that not everyone is happy about that. political deals to drop corruption chargers, climbing further into bed with the USA, to root out corruption? extremism?fanaticism?...from my world a continent away,Pakistani politics, is not something i know much about, a woman PM, Islamic country,...all seems very impressive. but the mood in the country doesn't seem happy, there are greater issues here than a teary return from exile.
as in south Africa, where we blindly follow, the rule of the anc, (they after all brought in democracy)the cracks begin to show, to much leniency with regards to crime, failing infrastructure, corruption, misuse of government funding. granted not on the scale of the like's of Pakistan. however if we are complacent and blindly supportive of the ruling party, we are setting ourselves up to be another Zimbabwe or Pakistan. with all due respect to BB,...the slate is not clean, even though deals have been made,....being the lackey of the USA,is not an endorsement.the political and economic future of Pakistan should be paramount, not emotional political grandstanding.
