the mountain of green tea

the title of this blog, is taken from a short story, by yahya taher abdullah.
egyptian short story writer,
abdullah is dealing with a psychological world that has no equivalent in western life or literature, a world made real and significant by his sensitivity and artistry,
the lives, of ordinary village folk, invested with such deep rooted cultural and religious more's. so intresting in contrast, to modern day egypt, what with sham, democratic elections, increasing unemployment, and the overcrowding of cairo, as people flock to her city streets in search of work etc, yet nothing really changes for those in the villages. interesting work, and i could go on indefinitely,...

but why remember this know,...we have been so inundated by news of natural disasters, the world over in the last month, new orleans,mexico,guatemala,..and this week he devastating eartquake, in pakistan,..and it seems it is always the less privileged in society that are hardest hit, by these disasters. yet they pick themselves up, and continue on with such strength and fortitude.

and i say this, as i deal with difficulties of my own, which seem so small in comparison to all this, ....the lesson to be learnt though, is that we can always rise above the ashes, "my father climbed up the mountain to collect the green herbs of tea from its vergers, also the green lemons." and so the story ends.

human beings are fundamentally flawed, and emphasis is placed on all the wrong aspirations, truthfully,...i am grappling with the idea of how to make those around me realise that material life, is not always what we should be hankering after,... that the soul too needs to be fed. but then this is a material world, and if madonna was right,..i should be a material girl....
i think not,...yet getting people around me to believe that,...very,very difficult.

may hep, i will get it right some day. this being the month of contemplation,...i shall contemplate, till i get it right.
