i'm a jo'burg girl no doubt, and last nights paper had me rolling in the isles.
you gotta laugh at the idiosyncracies of this city.
CRIME
our new deputy president, phumzile mhlambo-nguka, (instated after her predecessor got axed for an alleged corrupt relationship with the "shaik" ,...lol, the foibles of the political agenda, as i've stated previously, this is all political machinations, by those who would like to remain in control, viva!!!!! we are finally understanding the true meaning of democracy,..and you thought it was all about providing for the people, but i digress.)
mrs. nguka's home was "broken" into, the intrepid burglars got away, with a handbag, cellphone, and laptop. know here's the joke,...she has a paid for by the tax dollar, round the clock, security detail...18 "highly trained officers".
ya right, and the burglars still got in and out. know heads are gonna role,
the poor dear is taking strain for taking over the popularly filled shoes of mr. zuma, and know this,... shock,.. horror, is no one safe in johannesburg's pretty suburbs.
perhaps know, the powers that be will be looking at safety and security with some concern. the perp's have been arrested though, somewhat faster then if it had been my home that was "broken" into. (politically correct word usage here). but then im not the deputy president, am i?oh i forget to mention her home is supposedly located in a high crime area, you know where the residents are a little affluent, if i was a burglar, i surely wouldn't be hitting the low income streets,.. would you?
but 18 highly trained officers, lol.
THE WHISTLE BLOWER
the gauteng community safety mec, mr. feroze cachalia wants us to become rat faced finks. since highly trained professionals are unable to root out crime and corruption he wants joe public, to do the dirty,...tell on your neighbours, rat out the home fairs official/sars official etc, etc.
he says whistle blowing is the only way to nip corruption in the bud.
is it me, or are these idiots taking the big brother crap a bit far.
but hey here's the number for the anti-corruption hotline if any of you upstanding citizens want to rat on the official who made you stand in line far longer than you should have,...0800-701-701. the star tested, said number, yesterday and it was answered "almost" immediately.
i am beside myself, isn't it sufficient that since september 11, we are even having to disclose the colour of our undewear if we want to do something as simple as opening a bank account, i mean, you've got to further proof of residence, utilities anything that's in your name at your present residence.what happens when all your mail comes to a po box,..or if you're changing residence a couple of times in a year, or heaven forbid ure living with someone were all the utilities are on their name.(the guji way, ure over 30 and living at home with the folks)
we have, inducted this stupidity into law, under the fica bill, thus giving access to big brother, over all we do in the day.
is this not a blatant miscarriage of justice?,i do believe my basic human rights are being violated here, the very thing we fought to get back, after 40 years of an unjust system. perhaps mr. cachalia and his bosses should be considering that before they ask us to rat on the neighbours. we are in danger of becoming no better then the previous regime in power here.
the nnp, is finally being disbanded as a party, the political regime that inspired death/fear/ mayhem for much of our political history, is to be disbanded after the upcoming elections,(since they all crossed the floor and joined the anc, politically expedient tactics, to save rapidly desolving job opportunities) and we are replacing them with an american style big brother. go figure
you have got to laugh at life's "pleasant" ironies.
THE NOSE RING
viva democracy, one imagines oneself elevated to new hights of development, when schoolgirls can take action against higher authority, by pertitioning the equality court to allow them to wear nose-rings to school because they are part of culture and religion, viva to that.
are we reaching developed world status when courts have time to deliberate the position of body piercings, on school girls, as opposed to not having time to deal with criminal offences, corruption, land claims and all the myriad of problems that are decidedly more important.
i think we are kindergarden graduates, who want to operate in a world which has reached phd status centuries ago.we haven't reached the first rung in the ladder of empire,.. shouldn't we be learning to crawl before we try to sprint to developed ideals status, world domination, exploitation of other nations for our own enrichment, etc, etc. while our local population has only body piercing issues to deal with, we could reek havoc across continents. but then we have to grow up first, naa!!!
you gotta find some amusement in that
AND IN OTHER NEWS.
"democracy" has finally reached egyptian shores. that dictator mubarak, is standing for "re-election",...i'm sure the general egyptian populace has not been taken in by this sham.
mubarak's face adorns bill boards everywhere, he has the monopoly on tv coverage, who are the opposition again?
then there's hurricane katrina, powerful woman that, reeking havoc in new orleans, the city has deteriorated into complete lawlessness, its citizens looting and pilliging, and the great american machinery powerless to do anything.
yet they are so sure they have iraq under control:)
with no dis-respect to the victims of this natural disaster, american's appear to be a bunch of hapless moron's. wailing and weeping bout their lot in life, but seemingly unable to help themselves,...perhaps im generalising here, but when the tsunami devastated, india, asia, africa (bits off)
the victims, just seem to knuckle down, and get on with it. they were rebuilding their devastated home's. making every effort to repair their devasted lives, on the other hand, american's are seen constantly complaining about what's not being done for them, and stealing everything they can possiblly lay their grubby paws on.
i am convinced that they are a nation of whiners,am i being too judgemental?
or do people become like that when they live in countries where there is not much to struggle for. are we, in the third world so used to hardship and difficulty that we don't fall apart when hurricanes devastate our lives, be it natural or man made?
meanwhile in downtown johannesburg, there is work to be done, someone's got to put bread on the table. the traffic increases at an alarming rate daily, i find myself contending with the rough neck driving skills on a global level, fighting beijing, mogadishu, karachi, bombay, south africa's other provinces,.. as i try to weave my way from one appointment to the next. i might add that i am becoming quite adapt at using the paan filled invectives,my friends in karachi spent so much effort teaching me:)
thats what i love about this city, it has the capacity to absorb so much, the changing landscape of this city, is something to watch out for.
and we are proving to be quite accepting of all these changes, cosmopolitan johannesburg, is the place to be.
i am saddened that the only thing people seem to focus on is crime, hey our criminals are sharp, they can get the better of 18 professional officers on security detail,LOL.

in the good old land of the pure, the law is in the hands of the police themselves, so we know who they are most of the time, and therefore we dont need investigations
